The new ‘For You’ tab from the Google TV service is certainly a useful tool for many users. It’s supposed to provide the most suitable recommendations when it comes to movies and TV shows. The new functionality is named as ‘entertainment you love, with a little help from Google’.
The problem is that Google TV doesn’t support user profiles in its current form. Therefore, only one person can get personalized content recommendations through Google TV, without the possibility to flick to different user profiles.
Many users of the new Chromecast with Google TV are already annoyed with Google for not adding the profile switching feature. This statement of one of the unsatisfied users, from the Chromecast support forums, says it all:
“Now all the recommendations for my account will be affected by my wife when she searches for something. There isn’t a way for her to watch her shows that are on her account DVR on YouTube TV,”
The new Chromecast packed with Google TV still needs an app that can activate the new Google TV launcher interface. Placing the launcher app within the Play Store will allow the new Chromecast device homescreen to get feature improvements, UI tweaks, and even more. The Play Store description says:
“Google TV Home is the basis for all activities on your Google TV entertainment device. Browse thousands of movies, shows, and live TV channels from your subscriptions without having to jump between apps. Discover new things to watch with recommendations based on what you watch and what interests you.”
Google seems to be doing great in the recent past when it comes to its involvement in the hardware field. The Pixel 5 smartphone will be launched in just a few days, and it will be representing Google’s flagship for 2020. After the failure with Pixel 4, its successor promises significantly improved features: better battery life, more RAM, bigger display, superior version of the Android operating system, and more.
