Facebook has surely gone a long and difficult road since its foundation in 2004. With tremendous amounts of work, the insanely-popular social network is now counting 2.7 billion monthly active users for the second quarter of the current year. This means over a third of the current population of the planet.
The Facebook company started testing a new section called Facebook Shop for its mobile app, and it’s easy to guess what you could find there: various products from many businesses.
Facebook Shop represents something unique
George Lee, the Director of Product Management, says that the purpose is to create something unique, adding:
That’s not to say that there aren’t learnings across the board,” he said. “[Instagram Shop and Facebook Shop] probably look like slightly different on day one, and the goal is not to have them be cookie cutters of the same experience.
Facebook Shop will also bring some new functionalities along for simplifying a selling process, but a new design is also under the spotlight. For instance, there will be the ability to create Shops automatically if the user is a new seller. A new messaging option will also become available for customers that want to send sellers a message via Messenger, WhatsApp, or Instagram Direct.
Instagram, the platform owned by Facebook, is also preparing for some big changes. Vishal Shah, who is Instagram’s vice president of product, admits that the ongoing pandemic has played a significant role regarding the present situation:
The pandemic has really changed behavior from a consumer perspective, so we’re moving as fast as we can to bring out these tools to help [businesses respond].
There’s no telling yet when the Facebook Shop feature becomes available, but meedios.com will keep you up-to-date with the latest news.
