OnePlus 8 Pro Hands-on Image Reveals 120Hz Display Refresh Rate Setting

Looking at Oneplus’s 90Hz refresh rate displays in the OnePlus 7 and 7T series, we can only applaud the smooth screens, aside from their flagships specs. Well, OnePlus is raising the bar by introducing a 120Hz display refresh rate to its incoming OnePlus 8 Pro.

The company has already announced that they will add a 120Hz Fluid Display to its smartphone this year, adding MEMC to its panel so that it offers not only motion smoothing but also up to 4096 levels of brightness adjustment.

Hands-on Photo Confirms Several Leaks as Well

Thanks to an insider from OnePlus, the website True-Tech reported that the company would implement this refresh rate setting in the OnePlus 8 Pro. The proof comes through a hands-on photo of the smartphone.

In the image, we see everything that was already leaked in previous renders, such as the punch-hole camera cutout that you can spot in the top-left corner of the display. Yes, there are no pop-up cameras this time!

Let’s take a look at the photo and what this insider had to say about the leaked information.

OnePlus 8 Pro Users Will Be Able to Switch Between Three Display Refresh Rates

True-Tech reported that a regular tipster that claims to work at OnePlus also “mentioned that device could be a pre-production test unit, which could be reiterated upon for the final device.”

Choosing the lower refresh rate – 60Hz will help extend battery life. The second option – 90Hz, will be a balanced option between smooth UI and battery life. Meanwhile, the description in the ‘Screen refresh rate’ setting mentions that the 120Hz option will “slightly” reduce battery life.

OnePlus could make the display resolution drop to FHD+ to improve performance and battery life while keeping a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung plans to add this option to its Galaxy S20 series, so it would make sense for OnePlus to follow the same approach.

Looking at the design in the hands-on photo, we see confirmation of the OnePlus 8 Pro Product Diagrams, which were also tipped by the same insider, noted True-Tech in their exclusive report.

We will not have much to wait until OnePlus launches its OnePlus 8 series. The company will announce its 2020 flagship in April. The device will launch in the US with 5G support on Verizon’s network.
