Nvidia RTX 3090 Might Require 850W: What to Expect

Nvidia is getting ready to bring the new RTX 3000 series of GPUs based on Ampere architecture soon. As good as the news might be, there’s also a drawback. It is said that the RTX 3090 will come as the most powerful GPU developed by Nvidia, and that will require a lot of power.

If you plan to upgrade your gaming PC with the upcoming RTX 3090, then you might want to think twice. According to the most recent report, Nvidia’s RTX 3090 will need up to 850W.

Considering the power requirements of the rest of the PC components like the CPU, a PC build with an RTX 3090 should have minimum a 1200W PSU. If not, the user might face a performance bottleneck due to insufficient power supply. Here is what you need to know.

Nvidia RTX 3090 Features and Specs Unveiled

The Nvidia RTX 3090 is said to pack up to 24GB of GDDR6X video memory with up to 21Mbps data transfer rate. Considering this amount of memory, we could expect some sleek performance, especially with the real-time ray-tracing feature.

Previous leaks indicated that the RTX 3090 would arrive with a price tag of $1399 in the western market, and it should cost over Rs. 100.000 in India. Such a thing means that the RTX 3090 might impress many developers and studios rather than end-users due to the massive amount of VRAM it has.

Nvidia is also expected to release the RTX 3080, 3070, and the RTX 3060, too, with a starting price of approximately $399.

The upcoming RTX 3090 is said to come with a new 12-pin power adapter. Some new PSUs should also be released to support the RTX 3090.

RTX 3090 is not the only power-hungry GPU developed by Nvidia. The RTX 2080 Ti needs 650W of power. Some believe that the new increase in the power requirement should bring serious performance improvements. Nvidia should release more details this week.
