The most recent streaming service, HBO Max, is now available.
For subscribers to the HBO Now subscription service, or HBO on most cable systems, HBO Max is an add-on, a gift. The previous “Now” app became “Max” with an upgrade. Here are all the details you should know.
HBO Max Features and Other Details
HBO Max is HBO, plus TV series, cartoons from the Warner Bros. library, original animation, classic Hollywood and foreign movies from the TCM film library, and more. The original programming is easy compared to other streaming services such as Netflix, Disney +, or Hulu. But, similar to Disney, the library of content is so abundant, it could keep you watching for months.
For most cable subscribers, who know well the HBO Go service, they get to sign in to the HBO Max app with their current details and get the service for free.
HBO is touting a lot the complete collection of The Big Bang Theory and Friends, the Harry Potter movies, and other blockbusters from the Warner Bros. libraries, such as Wonder Woman and Aquaman. The Max streaming service is divided into lots of “hubs,” which comprise content libraries from HBO, TCM, Studio Ghibli, DC, Cartoon Network, Crunchy Roll, Sesame Workshop, Adult Swim, and Looney Tunes.
Some hubs, however, are offering better content that others. TCM, for instance, is full of classics galore such as Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and the entire Charlie Chaplin movie collection. Then, there’s Cartoon Network, with series like Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Adventure Time, but with missing notable titles such as Courage the Cowardly Dog, or Johnny Bravo.
Unlike the Disney+, which have lots of vintage cartoons from the vault, HBO Max has many of the best Porky Pig and the gang and Bugs Bunny. Also, navigation on HBO Max is pretty tough. If you want to watch the classics from the Hanna-Barbera library, like The Jetsons or The Flinstones, you’ll have to click search and type out their names.
Overall, HBO Max is greater than HBO Now, with more programming to keep you busy during this pandemic period. So, should you choose another subscription service? That’s the streaming topic of 2020.
