Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 is one of the most rumored next-gen games so far. So, when is it supposed to release on the new consoles?
Probably the most anticipated and desired title for next-gen consoles, Grand Theft Auto 6 has yet to be officially confirmed and announced by Rockstar Games. Speculations have emerged over the last few months when the game will arrive, where the game will be located, and if GTA 6 will feature the VR tech.
Many fake announcements and leaks made the rounds on forums online, increasing the rumor around the launch date. Here are the latest details that you need to know.
GTA 6 and Rockstar Games’ Next-Gen Projects
Two years have passed since Rockstar Games’ hit Red Dead Redemption 2, while GTA 5 launched five years before. It is known that Rockstar has eight studios worldwide, but there are several projects permanently being worked on, such as GTA Online or Red Dead Online, and porting older games to PC and other platforms.
Those projects are surely keeping the studios busy, mainly considering how much cash GTA Online brings, and the announcement of a GTA 5 port to next-gen consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X, leads some to think that GTA 6 still has a long way to go.
With Grand Theft Auto 5 launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X next year, we can expect the sequel to be launched after that. However, we may wait a while after GTA 5, considering the amount of extra marketing and work that will go into the remaster.
A recent change in leadership could also bring a delay for the GTA 6, as Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser left the team a few months ago. If the period between big releases is any indication, it could be well into 2023 before anyone grabs a copy of the game. Until then, the GTA 5 remaster is the closest thing we can get.
