Diablo 4 awoke from the enraged, infernal depths of hell during BlizzCon 2019. While its predecessor was all about the struggles and challenges between demons and angels, Blizzard Entertainment’s upcoming installment of its unstoppable and slashing dungeon crawler will be returning to the series’ occultist origins and dark magic. Here is what you should know.
Diablo 4 Release Date: What You Should Expect
Diablo 4 was announced last year at BlizzCon without even a vague launch date window. After the convention, Allen Adham, Blizzard’s co-founder, said that the fourth installment is still in its early stages of development. “It’s really grounded in the quests and the content that are an order of magnitude beyond anything we’ve done before,” detailed Adham.
Unfortunately, Adham didn’t say anything about a timeline of when Diablo fans could expect another update. Based on what we know about the past Diablo games, and what we’ve seen at BlizzCon, we should expect a 2022 or 2023 launch date.
Diablo 4 and the Next-gen Consoles
Blizzard announced that Diablo 4 would be released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One consoles. It could also be exclusively released on the next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Neither of those consoles had been unveiled when Diablo 4 was announced, which was probably why Blizzard only mentioned current-gen gaming systems.
Diablo 4 Might Feature PvP
Diablo has been so far a co-op game, but Blizzard stated that it looked into PvP areas that gamers could explore to in-game. David Kim, the lead systems designer, said: “We want to have that mixed (player-versus-environment) and PvP type of experience.”
What Playable Classes Should We Expect
The Diablo 4 gameplay trailer unveiled three classes that will be playable, the Barbarians, Sorceresses, and the Druids. The Barbarian will arrive as a melee-combat specialist, emphasizing close-quarters damage, survivability, and explosive. The warriors will use “warcries” to send them into a frenzy temporarily. They can also dual-wield devastating weapons.
The Sorceress will be a ranged spellcaster who controls the elements to freeze enemies and then hit them with fireballs. She can safely cast her destructive spells, becoming the deadliest.
As for the Druid, he is a hybrid melee brawler with summoning and shape-shifting skills. He can call upon nature to animate him with feral strength. The Druid can also deal with immense elemental damage.
Blizzard has released two trailers of Diablo 4. The gameplay trailer showed off an astonishing amount of detail for a game that’s probably still years away. You can watch the trailers below.
