Windows 10 will soon notify you if your SSD is still running correctly. One of the worst things that can happen to your PC is a non-functional SSD. If there are some issues you could lose huge amounts of information. But, Windows 10 promises to change such a thing.
Build 20266, is the most recent version of Windows 10 and comes with a new and smart storage health monitoring feature that can warn us when an SSD might be affected. The functionality has been specifically configured to run with NVMe SSDs. Here is what you need to know.
Windows 10 Version 20266: What’s New
Trying to recover data after a drive failure is both time-consuming and expensive. The newest Windows 10 update adds a feature developed to detect hardware issues and errors for NVMe SSDs and announce us with enough time to do something. Microsoft recommends us to back up our data after receiving a notification immediately.
Suppose you have access to the recent Windows 10 Insider Preview Build. In that case, you can get the new monitoring functionality by going into the system setting right on your Windows 10 PC and navigating the Storage section.
Next, select Manage disks and volumes and click on Properties. If there’s an issue, you’ll notice a warning will alert you whether your SSD’s health has deteriorated.
What Should You Do
If something is wrong, then Windows 10 will recommend you to back up your data on that SSD to avoid any failure. In fact, it’s better if you do a back up right now to a cloud service as well as an external hard drive to be sure you won’t lose a thing.
Even if the new Windows 10 feature is available only for members of the Windows Insider program, the rest of the users should be able to install the latest update in the coming weeks.
